Chesterfield manager Paul Cook has expressed his delight with the club's transfer window business as he prepares his team for a second home fixture this week. The Spireites host Barnet at the SMH Group Stadium on Saturday afternoon following a midweek draw with Gillingham.

Cook's satisfaction stems from two deadline-day additions: winger Joel Randall and midfielder Kiano Dyer. He told the club's official website, Chesterfield FC, that the calibre of players brought in has significantly boosted the squad. "I’m really pleased with the transfer window," Cook said. The manager revealed the Randall deal was completed with just eight seconds remaining, thanking Bolton Wanderers for their assistance in the move, having tracked the player since his time at Ipswich Town.

Cook believes the arrivals address a key issue, stating the team had been operating at only 50-60% of its capacity. He pointed to the early-season absence of forwards Ruel Sotiriou, Dylan Duffy, and Will Dixon as part of the challenge. With Randall and Dyer now integrated, Cook is confident the squad has the firepower needed at this level. He described Randall as a "top, top player" who will become a fan favourite and noted Dyer's move from Chelsea was a smoother process.

The manager also highlighted the work of the club's support staff, including secretary Chantelle Young and football secretary John Croot, in securing the late deals. Young defender Danny Anisjko has also impressed in training, adding to the manager's options.

Attention now turns to the visit of Barnet, a team Cook holds in high regard. He described Bees boss Dean Brennan as "one of the brightest young managers" who has transformed the club. Cook respects Barnet's style of play and anticipates a tough match, but he is looking forward to the contest. "We will see Dean Brennan tomorrow and look forward to beating him," Cook stated, referencing a generally positive record at Barnet's home ground.

Cook also took a moment to thank the Chesterfield supporters after a midweek crowd of over 7,500. "I really enjoyed Tuesday night’s performance. Great attendance, absolutely fantastic attendance. Brilliant pat on the back to our fans," he said. He urged fans to continue their backing, believing this season has the potential to be a really good one.

The club finished the 2025 campaign strongly, ending sixth in England League Two with 79 points from 46 games. Their form line of DLWWD and a goal difference of +15, having scored 71 goals, shows the attacking foundation Cook wants to build upon. They ended the season eight points behind champions Bromley. The focus is now on bedding in the new players through hard work on the training ground to build a team that excites the fanbase.

Cook thanked owners Sharon and Ash Kirk for their support during the window. The immediate task is preparing for Barnet, with the full fixtures list showing a busy schedule ahead.
