Messages of support have been sent by Chesterfield FC's manager and players to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Chesterfield Sunday Football League. The milestone has drawn tributes from current first-team figures and former Premier League names connected to the area.
Paul Cook, the Chesterfield manager, and first-teamer Liam Mandeville both sent messages. Former Spireite and ex-Premier League manager Sean Dyche also contributed a tribute. The league's social media officer, Dan Brown, thanked Viaplay's Olof Andersson for his help in engaging the personalities. Brown said the gesture helped pay tribute to everyone connected with the league and raised its profile beyond north Derbyshire.
Premier League referee Stuart Atwell sent a message to the league's match officials. Former Sheffield United striker Jan Age Fjortoft revealed it had been a long-held ambition of his to play in the Chesterfield Sunday Football League.
The community focus comes as the professional side prepares for its next League Two fixture. Chesterfield, sitting seventh with 15 points, face Port Vale away on Saturday. The last meeting between the sides ended in a 1-1 draw at the Technique Stadium in September. The Chesterfield Sunday Football League continues its 60th anniversary celebrations this week.
